    At the exact moment of Marshawn Lynch’s epic 67-yard touchdown run, the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network picked up a small –but measurable– tremor at Qwest Field.

    In terms of athletic achievements, I think causing an earthquake is a pretty awesome feat.  For example, 8 players have rushed for 100 or more touchdowns in their careers, but how many have made the earth move?

    Take a look at the video of the run:

    I’m not quite sure how to read this graph from the Washington Post, but I understand it measures seismic activity and red means lots of shaking.

    And there’s this one from the Seattle Times:

    The Washington Post provides this timeline of what went on between tickmarks 100 and 120:

    101 – 103: Ball hiked.

    105 – 107: Marshawn Lynch hits the hole.

    107 – 109: Lynch breaks through the line.

    110 – 112: Lynch breaks another tackle.

    112 – 114: Lynch shoves Saints cornerback Tracy Porter, knocking him 5 yards downfield.

    117 – 119: Lynch crosses the goal line, corresponding to the biggest burst of energy.

    Pretty sweet accomplishment.  Texas A&M may own the trademark to the “12th Man” but I can’t find any record of them ever causing an earthquake.

    Did You Know?

    There is at least one other notable sports-related earthquake.  In 1988, nearly 80,000 fans rocked LSU’s Tiger Stadium following the game-winning TD against Auburn.

    GOOOO!

    HUSKIIEES!

    We had an awesome time in San Diego rooting on the Dawgs in their Holiday Bowl upset of Nebraska.

    Before the game their were tons of both purple and red-clad fans walking the streets.  In Old Town, they even put up a sign to make us feel welcome.

    Then it was on to the stadium for some pre-game tailgating.

    It was freezing… we were hoping for shorts-weather but instead got chilly and windy.  Come on, we’re 20 miles from Mexico, it should be warm!

    We sat in the nosebleed seats –literally in the last row– but they actually provided a pretty good view of the action.  You could really see the whole play develop from the bird’s-eye-view.

    We saw what had to have been the world’s biggest American flag and felt very patriotic.  It was seriously 100 yards long!

    And we saw a great game.  By the end of it, the red half of the stadium was almost empty and all the purple-people were left cheering like crazies.  Don’t look now but the Dawgs are on a 4-game winning streak.

    Saturday’s Husky loss at BYU (13 straight road losses!) got me thinking about winning and losing.  I like to reason with myself that the time spent watching the game is all worthwhile if it results in a victory, but completely wasted if it’s a loss.  This is flawed logic because the true value lies in the fan experience and the friends you watch with.

    Of course victory can’t be as sweet without first knowing the sting of defeat, but losing still sucks.  The problem is you have no impact on the outcome.  Or maybe if you’re at the game, a very small impact (unless you’re Steve Bartman).  The score will be the same whether you watch or not.

    Watching helplessly as time ran out served as a painful reminder of some poor business decisions I’ve made this year that essentially made me a spectator in my own life.  When you lose control over your own livelihood, it’s an uncomfortable and frustrating position to be in.  Of course everything’s clearer in hindsight, but winners wouldn’t allow that to happen.

    Time to “control the controllables” and get ‘r done.

    Husky fans, back me up on this.  Every time you see a headline about the movie Hurt Locker — and there have been a lot lately — your brain only processes those keywords and assumes QB Jake Locker has been injured somehow.

    Haven’t seen the movie, but already don’t like it for that reason.

    Four-sixths of our college house reunited in Seattle this weekend to watch the Huskies dominate Cal in their last game of the season.  We spent some time at the Duch, tailgated on Saturday, and had a victorious good time.  And apparently we were on TV, but I didn’t see it.

    We’ll have to do it again sometime when everyone can make it.
