Totino’s Pizza: Cheap Calories

I’ve been spoiled by Bryn’s excellent cooking for almost three years now.  Before that, I was more interested in the most efficient ways to get the necessary calories into my body.
One of the best (read: worst) products I found was Totino’s Party Pizza.  These little frozen pizzas would go on sale for $1 , and [...]

The Difference Between Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits continue to ripen after they’re picked. Vegetables don’t.
Fruits have seeds.  (Making a seedless grape a non-fruit?)
Tomato Trivia:
Despite technically being a fruit, tomatoes were legally declared to be vegetables by an 1893 Supreme Court decision.  The Supreme Court was ruling on the matter because vegetables like tomatoes being imported into the US were subject to [...]

Fun With the Nestle Crunch Hotline

What will those crazy Swiss think of next?

It would be awesome if every company included a “funner” menu on their 800-number automated system.  But who is calling Nestle anyway?

In-N-Out’s Secret Menu

I’m so hungry right now, In-N-Out sounds delicious!  Have you ever felt out-of-the loop when ordering at In-N-Out?  I have, and it’s all because of their secret menu that up until now, only native Californians have had access to.  Well actually it’s posted on their website… but still.

I’m convinced there are more “styles” than just [...]

Thankful

It’s been a great year with so much to be thankful for.  I figure Thanksgiving is a good a time as any to reflect on all the blessings we have.  Happy and healthy.  Still self-employed.  Wonderful friends and family.  Couldn’t ask for much more.
And then there was the food

Thanksgiving Myths and Legends

There’s no question, Thanksgiving is a great holiday.  You get to down piles of food with friends and family and be thankful for all the opportunities that made it possible.  But I wanted to address some common Thanksgiving “legends” to see if they were true or not.
1. The tryptophan in turkey makes you sleepy.
This is [...]

Del Taco … “Of The Taco”?

That’s a curious name for a restaurant.  I guess it was originally “Casa del Taco,” which makes more sense.

Either way, I had my first Del Taco experience when we stopped for lunch on our drive up to Auburn for the wedding festivities.  The chicken burrito was OK, and the combo meal came with french fries… [...]

The Old Spaghetti Factory: Best Restaurant Ever

Where else can you sit in a old-fashioned streetcar and get a four-course meal for like $10?  The Old Spaghetti Factory is amazing and deserves recognition!

Last weekend we went to the San Jose Spaghetti Factory, and it was approximately equal in awesomeness to the Seattle one.  Plus they earned bonus points because we didn’t have [...]

Halloween is Big Business

Between costumes, candy, pumpkins, decorations, and drinks, Halloween has turned into a $5 billion dollar business.  Billion with a B.  I just want my share.
But it’s a great holiday.  For trick-or-treating, you get dressed, you go to work, and you get paid — in candy!  I like Greg Behrendt, and his comedy bit about trick-or-treating [...]
