Denver

Fun times this weekend in Denver for Dan’s bachelor party, expertly orchestrated by Blake.

Fun Facts about Denver:

Don’t let the name fool you, the DEN airport is nowhere near the actual city.
Where are the mountains?  This place is flat.
Denver is the birthplace of the cheeseburger, a 1935 creation by Louis Ballast.  Despite this, Denver has one [...]

Reno

I volunteered to serve as a judge for an Alpha Kappa Psi business case competition, so this past weekend Bryn and I traveled to Reno for the fraternity’s western regional conference.
Having no experience in judging these sorts of things, it was a pretty cool experience.  I was impressed with the analysis and insight offered by [...]

Volvo Overseas Delivery

When you buy a new Volvo, you have the option of taking delivery at the Volvo factory in Gothenburg, Sweden.  There’s no extra cost, and Volvo will even give you 2 round-trip plane tickets to make the journey.  Then, they’ll give you a free night’s hotel stay, let you drive your new car all over [...]

Tahoe Ski Weekend

We had a great time skiing up at Tahoe (Sierra-at-Tahoe, Heavenly) last weekend.  It was kind of a blizzard so the camera didn’t make it out of the jacket pocket.  There were plenty of high-speed groomers, big bumps, and some soft stuff in the woods too.
There’s a great deal going on at Shell gas stations [...]

Brooklyn House Reunion

Four-sixths of our college house reunited in Seattle this weekend to watch the Huskies dominate Cal in their last game of the season.  We spent some time at the Duch, tailgated on Saturday, and had a victorious good time.  And apparently we were on TV, but I didn’t see it.
We’ll have to do it again [...]

Book Review: The Geography of Bliss

I really liked The Geography of Bliss.  It probably helped that I read it in my personal version of paradise, poolside at the Hilton Los Cabos.
In the book, the narrator travels the globe in search of the secrets to happiness.  (Strangely absent: the “happiest place on earth.”)  The journey is both serious and funny, genuine [...]

Back to Mexico

Here’s my Mexico mash-up.  Swim-up bar, here I come!
It sounds so simple, I just got to go
Some beach, somewhere
South of the border, down Mexico way
Do my best to waste another day
Toes in the water, ass in the sand
Sit right here and
have another beer in Mexico
It sounds so sweet, with the sun sinking low

CJU 2009

Last week I had the opportunity to attend Commission Junction’s annual CJU conference in Santa Barbara.  It was great to meet up with many of my advertising partners in advance of the holiday season.
I also realized it’s been 5 years since I first started doing affiliate marketing.  Time flies!

Home Again

Back to the ‘Quah this weekend, 4th trip this summer.  Hope the lake is still warm!

JetBlue’s All-You-Can-Jet Pass

For $599, JetBlue recently offered unlimited flights for 30 days, with not a lot of fine print.  (Basically you couldn’t just show up at the airport — flights would have to be booked 3 days in advance.)

Are “season-passes” the next big thing in air travel?  Ski areas, theme parks, and museums have already figured this [...]
