The Walk of Shame

By | October 12, 2010

That lonesome walk back from the mailbox empty-handed.

It’s kind of sad to open the mailbox and find nothing at all, not even junk mail.  (Although it’s nice not to have to deal with the junk mail, which is a big time-thief.)  It makes me think, “did the mailman come today?”  Maybe they get Columbus Day off.  Who get’s Columbus Day off?

Either way, the mailbox walk of shame is worse when your neighbors are at the pool, see you come out and ask if you’re coming swimming, and you say “no, just getting the mail.”  And then there’s no mail.  A little awkward.

The federal government and almost all of DC gets Columbus Day off. Postal workers do too. Still marveling at the fun of having my own key to a mail box, I eagerly checked mine last night just to have the same problem as you. Not only did Columbus Day mean that loads of my friends got the day off and less frequent metro service but I also got no mail!

I think if there’s no mail delivery, the library should be closed too!
