By now everybody’s probably already seen this video with a cute 4-year-old kid rocking out to the song “Boots On” by Randy Houser:
The reason I bring it up is because, having already seen the video, I bought the song on iTunes yesterday after their “Genius” tool recommended it for me. I wonder how many other people have done the same thing? I wonder what kind of impact a hit video could have on mp3 sales? Could a seemingly home-made video really be the work of music-industry insiders hoping to sell more CDs or downloads? Where there’s money to be made, there will always be people trying to game the system. (Not that using the Internet for personal financial gain is necessarily bad thing… )
At least in this example, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Although the video stars Drake Dixon, the son of Nashville singer/songwriter Dillon Dixon, Dillon is not listed in the songwriter credits for “Boots On.” And he was not involved in the making of the video; it was shot by Drake’s nanny.
Did You Know?
The YouTube video was such a hit, they worked some video-editing magic and based the real music video around it:
And during the making of the music video, Houser and Drake learned they shared the same birthday. A perfect match.
