Wedding Facts and Figures

These numbers are adapted from the June issue of Fast Company.
More than 2,190,000 couples got married in the US last year.  The average cost of these weddings was $28,704, making the wedding business a $62,861,760,000 industry.
Is that money better spent elsewhere?  What else does $62 Billion buy?

Dick’s Drive-In

No trip to Seattle is complete without a visit to Dick’s!

Since 1954, Dick’s has been clogging Seattleites’ arteries with their delicious cheeseburgers, smooth shakes, and soggy fries.   At UW, it was much better late-night dining choice than Jack-in-the-Box or Pizza Ragazzi although a location closer to the Ave would have been clutch.
We would always stop [...]

South Cove Run

On Sunday I had to do a 5 mile run as part of my Half-Marathon training plan, so I asked Dad for a recommended route.
What I got back was great.  The instructions included all these reference points like the “blackberry” park –where we used to go and pick blackberries, and friends’ houses who hopefully have [...]

Long-Wang Wedding

It was a classy affair all-around.  We had a great time.  From the rehearsal and dinner, to the photo session at Bellevue Park, to the Vegas-reunion Patron shots, and most of all catching up with friends we don’t get to see often enough.  Thanks for having us be a part of it!
The weekend was busy, [...]

Home for the Weekend

Heading home today for Memorial Day weekend in Seattle and deucejing’s wedding.  Unfortunately, Mochi won’t be making the trip and Dad is in Brazil so it won’t quite be a full family reunion.  But it’s always good to go home and I’m looking forward to it.
Mochi on his way to Club K-9.  Never quite grew [...]

Fiesta Movement

I saw my first Ford Fiesta the other day driving across the San Mateo Bridge.   The car doesn’t go on sale here until next year, but Ford held a contest where lucky drivers won a 6 month lease with gas and insurance paid.  The only catch — they have to blog about their experience.  Over [...]

Zappos Tour

During last weekend’s Las Vegas trip, I had the opportunity to visit the Zappos headquarters in nearby Henderson.  It was good timing, as I’d just finished reading this article in Inc. magazine about their CEO Tony Hsieh, their history, and their company culture.

Since Zappos is the largest online shoe-seller, it follows that they are [...]

A Crushing Victory

A dominating softball win followed by a Butterfinger Blizzard makes for a pretty good Tuesday in my book.

Check out this girl’s intensity as she’s about to score one of her three runs:

Love it.

Vegas Weekend

Have to keep it short to protect the innocent:  We partied like rockstars until the sun came up.

Lame

When I took Mochi out last Wednesday I found this rude surprise in my parking space:

Nothing was stolen, but I think I’d almost feel better if something was.  Then at least there would have been a reason for what appears to have been just random vandalism.  I’d been parked at home all day so I’m [...]
