For the second year in a row, we took a weekend trip to the desert for some baseball and to meet up with friends.

On Friday, we watched future big-leaguer Chris Gimenez score what turned out to be the game winning run against the A’s.  Our seats were in the shade, yet I still managed to get some sun.  I think the whiteness is like solar magnet.

We had some pretty nice seats on Saturday for the Mariners game in Peoria.  Third row behind the home dugout.  Buhner was nowhere to be found for our twin-chrome-dome photo op, but we did catch Griffey looking our way.

It was pretty hot, so we left early and went to the bar across the street to watch the Huskies lose their second round game to Purdue.  It would have been great to have a re-match against UConn, and at least they made it a close game there at the end.

Since the Mariners-Cubs game on Sunday was sold out, we looked for something else to do.  After reading that the Phoenix Zoo was voted one of the nation’s Top 5 zoos for kids, and reasoning that we’re all somebody’s kids, we decided to check it out.  I’ve come to the conclusion that zoos are always more fun than I think they’re going to be.  Just like we had a blast watching the gorilla feeding in Atlanta, this weekend in Phoenix we enjoyed watching a poor giraffe was trying his best to get this leaf, but he just wasn’t quite tall enough.  Take a look at how much he wanted it, black tongue as far as it would go!
