Edgar and Nina Otto of Florida recently paid $150,000 to clone their late yellow lab.  Actually they were the winners of an auction, which means there were other people with enough disposable cash and the state-of-mind to be ready to spend $100k plus for a potential round 2 with their dog.  And it also means they had the dead dog’s DNA lying around just in case the opportunity came up.  So it was kind of in the name of science, but still, is that a good use of money?

To be fair, the Ottos are uber-rich (Edgar’s dad co-founded NASCAR), and have donated over $300,000 to their local Humane Society.  But they have 9 other dogs!

Mochi, we love you.
