Charles Darwin, father of the theory of evolution, was born February 12th, 1809.  His work, On the Origin of Species, was published in 1859.

One hundred fifty years later, 39% of Americans now say they “believe in the theory of evolution.”  I wouldn’t consider that an outstanding score, especially when compared with the percentage of Americans who believe that cell phones work, for example. (99% with a 1% margin of error.)  Both scientific facts.  One universally accepted, one considered heresy by the world’s most popular book.  Interesting.

Perhaps more disturbing are the 61% who could not say they “believe in the theory of evolution.”  These are people who’ve been known to show indifference toward reason and vote with their bibles instead of their minds.

Happy Birthday Mr. Darwin!
